Economically disadvantaged populations, in particular, have a greater mean energy burden due to lower quality housing and reliance on energy-intensive heating devices. Different partnerships in Maine with the same energy and cost saving goals are working hard to provide resources and assistance to household across the state.

Through campus/community partnerships focused on energy efficiency education and light weatherization services, Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship (MPES) Unity AmeriCorps members will increase energy efficiency and cost savings for local low-income homes (both renters and homeowners), community organizations, and institutes of higher educational institutions. In addition, MPES AmeriCorps members will address the need for more job opportunities and vocational training, particularly for unemployed and economically disadvantaged individuals in growth fields like green jobs.
Splitting their time between the campus and the community, the Unity MPES team will establish several energy efficiency and weatherization initiatives within the first program year of September 2018-August 2019.
